Update To Canada Tents Regulation
Under the Canada Co✔δnsumer Product Safety Act,
Health C±×anada is proposing a r₩ ×evision to the current α≥regulation
for Tents δαRegulations, SOR/2016-185 to adop•★≈γt an updated regulat♦←↕ion and method
for testin₽ε™↔g.
If adopted, the ↔♣target date for publication of theβ$ new codified method
CAN/CGSB-18¥★₹≠2.1 is March 31, 2019.
The scope of the revised regulaλ↓tion would
cover consumer tα≤εents and tent trailers while tent↓↕>≤s intended for indoor use only
®♦©δ
would be excluded.
This may also impact thλλ↓e current Canadian Toy
Regulation®', SOR/2011-17, by addi♦÷ng a requirement to ∞₹the toy
regulation for ≥&↓&the flammability of play tents that ar€≤₹×e intended for indoor use
o & "nly. Some of the ↑λ¶≥considerations are as follow∞σ≤s.
“Instead of
referrinβ&g to these products as "♠λ✔play tents", Health Canada is
consi©γσdering using the term "toys inte♥♥nded to be entered by a c☆↑γ↔hild"
to align with ISO 8124-2:201∑©÷©4, Safety of toys - Part 2↔¥: Flammability and E∏ εδN
71-2:2011+A1:2014, >π₹Safety of toys, These↑♠Ω products are defined in these☆®π♥
standards as toys that are mad ✔e of flexible materials such as fabriε≈c and vinyl
and that a₩σ☆t least partially enclose a child ≤σ∑, such as toy tents, puppet
thα ♠eatres, wigwams and pla λy tunnels, but not open can δ♣opies.”

these products incl$©ude:
the flammability requir¥∞ements for soft toys

in the Toys Regulations; or
the flammability requirements fo→¶r toys
intended to be entered by ↕↓∞≥a child in ISO 8124-2:2014">ε and EN 71-2:2011+A1:2∏™014.”
The first version of CAN/CGSB-1♥β←×82.1 is
intended to focus on∑✘γ← the fire safety of tents. O ΩΩther tent-related health a↓∞♦nd
safety issues - including lacerati≈on, puncture, entrapment, strangulat∞₩ ion, and
suffocation from carbon ×↑monoxide poisoning - may be $ introduced in later versions.
